What is identity verification?
Identity verification is the process used to confirm that the person or authorised representative applying for a service is genuine and that the information connected with the account is accurate.
Depending on the service, verification can include:
- full legal name;
- date and place of birth;
- nationality or nationalities;
- residential address and country of residence;
- government-issued identity document;
- proof of residence;
- selfie, liveness or other identity-matching check;
- tax-residence or tax-identification information;
- occupation or business activity;
- expected account or transaction activity;
- information about the purpose of the relationship;
- details of directors, representatives or beneficial owners for a business account.
This list is illustrative. Do not send documents until the current Quppy interface or official Support channel asks for them.
Why is verification necessary?
Verification helps Quppy and the applicable provider:
- confirm that the applicant is the person they claim to be;
- determine whether the applicant is old enough and legally eligible for the requested service;
- assign the correct legal entity, provider, terms and country configuration;
- screen for sanctions, politically exposed person status and other compliance risks where required;
- detect impersonation, account takeover, fraud and misuse;
- understand the expected use of fiat and crypto services;
- comply with anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing obligations;
- satisfy payment, crypto, Travel Rule and record-keeping requirements;
- review whether a requested account, payment route, asset or transaction can be supported.
Quppy is a technology and software provider rather than a bank. A regulated payment or crypto service available through Quppy may be provided by a separate legal entity. That provider can have its own onboarding and due-diligence requirements.
When can verification be requested?
Verification can be requested:
- when you create a profile;
- before a fiat account or payment route is activated;
- before crypto custody, exchange or transfer services are activated;
- when you apply for Quppy Business;
- when previously supplied information expires or changes;
- when you sign in from a new device or recover account access;
- when an operation is unusual or inconsistent with the known profile;
- when a law, regulator or provider rule changes;
- when additional information is required for a particular payment or crypto transfer.
A request does not necessarily mean that Quppy suspects wrongdoing. Many checks are standard, periodic or triggered by a change in product, provider or jurisdiction.
What documents may be requested?
The exact documents depend on the verification purpose. Examples can include:
- passport, national identity card or other accepted identity document;
- recent proof of address;
- residence permit;
- tax document;
- selfie or liveness check;
- employment or professional information;
- bank or payment statement;
- evidence supporting source of funds;
- company registry extract, incorporation documents, shareholder register or beneficial-owner details for a business.
A document can be rejected if it is expired, unreadable, incomplete, altered, inconsistent with the application, issued outside the accepted period, or not one of the document types supported for that check.
Security warning
Quppy Support should not ask you to disclose a password, PIN, live 2FA code, private key or seed phrase. Upload requested identity documents only through an approved Quppy or provider channel.
Why can verification differ by service or country?
A user can see different requirements because:
- Personal and Business services have different eligibility models;
- fiat accounts, payment rails and crypto services can have different providers;
- national identity-document formats differ;
- local rules and sanctions restrictions differ;
- a crypto provider may need additional information that a payment provider does not;
- enhanced due diligence can apply to a higher-risk customer, transaction, jurisdiction or ownership structure;
- the user’s verified residence can determine the regional service configuration.
Citizenship alone does not always determine the applicable configuration. Residence, onboarding country, legal entity, provider and applicable terms can all be relevant.
What happens if I do not complete verification?
If required verification is not completed, Quppy or the applicable provider may be unable to:
- finish onboarding;
- activate a service;
- process a transaction;
- increase a limit;
- restore account access;
- continue providing a service;
- release a transaction that is under review.
The account or operation can remain limited, pending, rejected, returned, suspended or closed in accordance with the applicable terms and law. Quppy cannot guarantee approval solely because documents were submitted.
How can I help the review proceed?
- Use your current legal name and accurate personal information.
- Submit complete, unedited and readable documents.
- Make sure the document has not expired.
- Ensure names, addresses and dates are consistent.
- Explain legitimate differences, such as a recent move or name change.
- Respond through the official channel shown in Quppy.
- Do not submit the same request repeatedly unless instructed.
- Keep your profile information updated after verification.
No fixed review time is promised in this article. Timing depends on the reason for the check, provider, jurisdiction, document quality and whether additional information is needed.
Identity and compliance information is processed to provide services, meet legal obligations, prevent fraud and financial crime, manage risk, respond to authorities where legally required, and maintain records.
The controller, recipients, retention period and legal basis can differ depending on whether the information is processed by Quppy or a service provider. Review the current Privacy Notice and the provider terms that apply to your service.
