What is a virtual IBAN?

A virtual IBAN is an account identifier linked to an underlying account arrangement and used to identify or reconcile incoming payments. It can be assigned to a customer, acquirer, store, website, legal entity, project, country or payment flow. A virtual IBAN does not necessarily constitute a separate bank account, and availability depends on the approved Quppy Business configuration.

How does a virtual IBAN work?

The identifier allows an incoming payment to be associated with a predefined source or business purpose. The payment is processed through the underlying account arrangement, while the virtual IBAN helps the dashboard or reconciliation system identify the relevant flow.

What can a virtual IBAN be assigned to?

Subject to approval, a virtual IBAN can be associated with:

  • an acquiring bank or PSP;
  • a marketplace or platform;
  • a website or physical store;
  • a customer or counterparty;
  • a group company or legal entity;
  • a project or product line;
  • a geographic market;
  • a particular settlement or collection flow.

Is each virtual IBAN a separate bank account?

No, not necessarily. Multiple virtual IBANs can be linked to one underlying account arrangement. The legal ownership, funds treatment, permitted payment types and supported currencies are determined by the provider and terms.

Can a virtual IBAN send payments?

Do not assume so. A virtual IBAN is commonly used to identify incoming payments, but outgoing functionality depends on the approved provider configuration. The customer should use the actual payment instructions shown in the Quppy Business dashboard.

Does every customer receive virtual IBANs?

No. The number of identifiers, currencies, use cases and fees are determined during onboarding and stated in the individual offer.

What happens if a payer uses the wrong virtual IBAN?

The payment may be allocated to the wrong internal flow, delayed for investigation, returned or require manual reconciliation. The customer should verify the identifier before sharing it and maintain a controlled mapping between each virtual IBAN and its intended use.

What is a dedicated GB IBAN?

A dedicated GB IBAN is an account identifier assigned for use by a specific approved business customer under the applicable account arrangement. It may be used for eligible commercial payments or settlement flows, depending on the underlying provider, currencies and payment rails. Not every Quppy Business customer receives a dedicated GB IBAN.

How can virtual IBANs help with reconciliation?

Virtual IBANs can help a business reconcile incoming payments by assigning a distinct identifier to an approved acquirer, customer, store, website, entity, project or payment flow. When a payment arrives, the identifier can help the business associate it with the correct source. This can reduce manual matching, but it does not replace accounting controls, contracts or transaction evidence.

Can my business receive merchant settlement payouts through Quppy?

Eligible online and offline merchants may be able to use approved Quppy Business account details to receive settlement payouts from acquiring banks, payment service providers, payment facilitators, marketplaces or card-acquiring platforms. The flow requires Quppy/provider approval and acceptance of the account details by the merchant’s settlement provider. Account approval does not guarantee that every acquirer will accept the proposed details.
