What happens if I send crypto to the wrong wallet address?

A crypto transfer sent to the wrong wallet address may be permanently lost. Confirmed blockchain transactions normally cannot be cancelled or reversed. Stop sending additional funds, preserve the transaction details, contact Quppy Support and, where relevant, contact the owner or platform controlling the destination address. Recovery is not guaranteed.

Do this now

  1. Do not send another transaction to “test” the address.
  2. Copy the transaction hash from Quppy or the blockchain explorer.
  3. Record the asset, network, amount, destination address, date and time.
  4. Confirm whether the destination belongs to a person, exchange, merchant or another platform.
  5. Contact Quppy Support through an approved channel.
  6. Contact the destination platform if you can identify it.
  7. Do not pay an unknown person who claims they can reverse the transaction.

Why can’t Quppy simply reverse the transfer?

A confirmed blockchain transaction is recorded on the network and normally cannot be edited or recalled by Quppy, the custodian or the sender.

If the destination address is valid and controlled by another person or platform, only the controller of that address may be able to return the assets. Quppy cannot force a third party to return funds.

Payhound’s public risk disclosure also states that cryptocurrency transfers are not reversible and that return depends on the recipient.

What information should I provide?

Provide factual transaction information:

  • Quppy account email or identifier;
  • asset and ticker;
  • blockchain network;
  • transaction hash;
  • destination address;
  • amount;
  • date and time;
  • screenshot of the completed transaction, if available;
  • name of the destination platform or recipient, if known;
  • explanation of how the address was selected.

Never provide your password, PIN, live 2FA code, private key or seed phrase.

What if the address belongs to an exchange or platform?

Contact the destination platform’s official support team and provide the transaction hash, asset, network, address and your account details with that platform.

The platform may be able to identify the deposit address and contact its account holder or investigate whether the transaction can be credited. It can also refuse assistance because of privacy, compliance, technical or legal restrictions.

Quppy cannot submit private customer information to another platform unless an appropriate legal or support process permits it.

What if I sent to a valid address controlled by another person?

Contact the recipient and request a return. Verify the return address and network carefully before the recipient sends anything back.

Do not assume that an accidental recipient is legally or technically able to return the assets immediately. Quppy cannot guarantee cooperation or enforce repayment.

How is a wrong address different from a wrong network?

Wrong address: the asset was sent on the intended network, but to an unintended or incorrect destination address.

Wrong network: the sender used a blockchain network not supported by the destination or selected a different network on each side.

Both can cause permanent loss, but the technical investigation differs. Use the separate wrong-network guide when the network was incorrect.

What happens if I use the wrong blockchain network?

Can a recovery service help?

Be extremely cautious. People who promise guaranteed blockchain recovery often request upfront crypto payments, remote device access, a seed phrase or private key.

Do not:

  • share authentication secrets;
  • install unknown remote-access software;
  • import private keys into an unverified website;
  • pay “unlock” or “tax” fees to a stranger;
  • send more crypto to prove ownership.

Use only official Quppy and destination-platform support channels.

How can I prevent a wrong-address transfer?

  • Copy the address directly from the current destination.
  • Compare the first and last characters after pasting.
  • Confirm the asset and network.
  • Verify any memo or tag.
  • Beware of clipboard malware that replaces addresses.
  • Use a small test transfer where appropriate and where the costs and destination process make sense.
  • Do not reuse an old address without confirming it is still valid.
  • Review the complete transaction before confirmation.

FAQ

Can Quppy cancel a confirmed crypto transfer?

Normally no. Confirmed blockchain transactions generally cannot be cancelled or reversed.

Can Quppy recover crypto sent to a wrong address?

Recovery is not guaranteed and is often impossible. Support can investigate the facts and available provider process.

Who can return the funds?

If a valid destination address received the assets, only the controller of that address may be able to return them.

Should I send another transaction?

No. Stop and investigate before sending anything else.

What is the most important evidence?

The transaction hash, asset, network, destination address, amount and time.

What if I sent to an exchange deposit address?

Contact the exchange through its official support channel and provide the transaction evidence.

Is a wrong address the same as a wrong network?

No. They are different incident types, though both can cause permanent loss.

Should I share my seed phrase with a recovery expert?

No. Never share a seed phrase, private key, password, PIN or live 2FA code.

Crypto wallet and transfers

What happens if I use the wrong blockchain network?

A crypto transfer sent through the wrong or unsupported blockchain network may not be credited and can result in permanent loss. Blockchain transactions normally cannot be cancelled or reversed. Stop sending additional funds, save the transaction details and contact Quppy Support and the other wallet or platform involved. Recovery is not guaranteed.

How do I send crypto to an external wallet?

Eligible users can send supported crypto-assets from Quppy to compatible external wallet addresses. Select the asset and network available to your account, enter or scan the destination address, review the amount and transaction details, and complete the required confirmation steps. Blockchain transactions normally cannot be reversed.

Crypto wallet and transfers

Why is my crypto transaction pending or under review?

A crypto transaction can remain pending because it is waiting for blockchain confirmations, the external platform has not completed processing, the applicable provider is processing it, or a security, compliance or Travel Rule review is required. “Pending” and “under review” are not the same as “failed.” Check the transaction status and evidence before contacting Support.

Account security and recovery

How does Quppy protect my account?

Quppy uses multiple account and transaction controls, including PIN protection, biometric login on supported devices, two-factor authentication, transaction confirmation and new-device confirmation. Account recovery is handled through Quppy Support and identity and security checks. These controls reduce risk but cannot make an account, device or transaction completely risk-free.
