Why is USDT unavailable through Quppy in the EEA?

USDT is not available through Quppy to users whose crypto services are provided under the European Economic Area regulatory framework. Quppy’s EEA crypto-service provider, Payhound Limited, excludes USDT from its EU/EEA service catalogue as part of its MiCA-compliant stablecoin policy. This is a Quppy service-availability restriction. It does not mean that simply owning USDT is generally illegal throughout the EEA.

The restriction is not determined by citizenship alone. Quppy applies the service configuration associated with your verified residence, onboarding country, assigned crypto-service provider and other eligibility information. A non-EEA citizen living in the EEA can therefore fall within the restriction, while an EEA citizen living outside the EEA may be served under a different regional configuration if eligible.

What changed?

Quppy no longer makes USDT available to users whose crypto services are provided under the EEA framework. For an EEA-configured Quppy account, USDT is not available for purchase, sale, crypto-to-crypto exchange, deposit, withdrawal or custody.

This change reflects the stablecoin availability policy of Quppy’s regulated EEA crypto-service provider and the requirements that apply to stablecoin-related services under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, commonly known as MiCA.

Why does MiCA affect stablecoin availability?

MiCA introduced a harmonised regulatory framework for crypto-assets and crypto-asset services in the European Union. It includes specific requirements for stablecoins classified as asset-referenced tokens or e-money tokens, including rules concerning their issuers, public offering, admission to trading and the services provided around them.

Under MiCA, an issuer offering an e-money token to the public or seeking its admission to trading in the EU must meet the applicable authorisation requirements. European regulatory guidance also explains that some services provided by crypto-asset service providers—including exchange, execution, reception and transmission of orders, and listing on a trading platform—can amount to an offer to the public or admission to trading.

In January 2025, the European Securities and Markets Authority stated that national authorities were expected to ensure compliance by crypto-asset service providers in relation to non-MiCA-compliant asset-referenced tokens and e-money tokens as soon as possible and no later than the end of the first quarter of 2025.

Quppy does not make its own global legal classification of USDT for every possible use. Instead, Quppy follows the product availability and regulatory configuration of the crypto-service provider assigned to the user. For EEA users, Payhound’s published service matrix excludes USDT.

Does this mean USDT is banned or illegal in Europe?

No. Quppy does not describe USDT as universally banned or illegal throughout Europe.

The relevant fact for Quppy users is narrower: USDT is not part of the crypto services that Quppy makes available under its current EEA provider configuration. MiCA requirements can affect which stablecoin-related services a regulated provider may offer, promote, exchange or otherwise make available.

The legal treatment of holding or transferring a token can differ from the rules governing its public offering, admission to trading, exchange or promotion. For this reason, Quppy uses the precise statement:

USDT is not available through Quppy to users in the EEA.

Who does the restriction apply to?

The restriction applies to users whose Quppy crypto account is configured for the EEA regulatory framework. Quppy determines the applicable configuration using verified account and eligibility information, which can include:

  • country of residence;
  • country used during onboarding;
  • assigned legal entity and crypto-service provider;
  • account type;
  • applicable service terms;
  • regulatory or product restrictions for the user’s market.

Citizenship alone is not the sole criterion. Your nationality and your country of residence are different data points. The provider and terms assigned to your account determine which assets and services are available.

What is the EEA?

The European Economic Area includes all European Union Member States together with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Switzerland is not part of the EEA.

Which USDT actions are unavailable in an EEA-configured Quppy account?

For an affected account, USDT is unavailable for:

  • buying with EUR or GBP;
  • selling into EUR or GBP;
  • exchanging USDT for another crypto-asset;
  • exchanging another crypto-asset for USDT;
  • receiving USDT from an external wallet;
  • sending USDT to an external wallet;
  • holding a new USDT balance through Quppy;
  • selecting USDT in a rate calculator, asset picker or deposit flow.

The absence of USDT in the app is intentional. It is not a temporary interface error unless Quppy Support confirms otherwise.

What should I do if I already have USDT or used a USDT address before?

Do not send additional USDT to Quppy unless the app explicitly shows USDT and the required network as available for your current account. A deposit address displayed in the past is not evidence that the asset is still supported.

If USDT is already associated with your account, check the current in-app instructions or contact Quppy Support before taking action. The available treatment can depend on the account status, provider configuration and the date on which the restriction became effective.

Can I send USDT to an old Quppy deposit address?

No. Do not send USDT to an address previously shown by Quppy unless the current app confirms that both USDT and the selected network are supported for your account.

Crypto sent to an unsupported asset or network may not be credited and recovery may be impossible. Blockchain transactions cannot normally be cancelled or reversed.

Is another stablecoin available through Quppy in the EEA?

USDC on the Ethereum network is available through Quppy in the EEA where supported for the user’s country and account configuration. USDC on Solana is planned as a coming-soon service.

USDC is a different crypto-asset from USDT. It has a different issuer, service configuration, network support, terms and risk profile. Availability through Quppy does not mean that USDC is risk-free, government-guaranteed or equivalent to a bank deposit.

Is USDT available through Quppy outside the EEA?

USDT may be available through Quppy outside the EEA, subject to the user’s country, assigned crypto-service provider, eligibility and supported blockchain network.

Availability outside the EEA must not be inferred from this article alone. Check the asset selector in Quppy and the country availability page. The applicable provider and service terms are shown before crypto services are activated.

Where available outside the EEA, the supported USDT networks can differ by provider and product configuration. Never assume that Ethereum, TRON or Solana is supported without checking the current deposit or withdrawal screen.

Why might another crypto platform still offer USDT in Europe?

Different platforms can use different legal entities, providers, service models, jurisdictions, product configurations or interpretations of which activities they perform. A platform might also restrict only certain USDT services or operate under a different customer relationship.

The availability of USDT on another platform does not change Quppy’s provider configuration and does not prove that the same service can be offered through Quppy. Review the legal entity, regulator, product terms and regional restrictions of each platform separately.

Could USDT become available again through Quppy in the EEA?

Quppy cannot promise that USDT will return. Future availability would depend on regulatory developments, the status of the token and its issuer, the policies of the applicable crypto-service provider, Quppy’s product configuration and Legal and Compliance approval.

If the status changes, Quppy will update the app, supported-assets page, country availability information and this Help Center article. Do not rely on old screenshots, cached search results or third-party posts.

Summary

USDT is unavailable through Quppy to users serviced under the EEA regulatory framework. The restriction follows the current MiCA-compliant product configuration of Quppy’s EEA crypto-service provider. It is a restriction on Quppy services—not a general statement that owning USDT is illegal throughout the EEA.

Availability and eligibility

Why do Quppy services differ by country?

Quppy services differ by country because the underlying fiat, payment, crypto and future card services can be provided by different legal entities under different regulatory permissions, payment-rail rules, asset restrictions and commercial configurations. Product rollout and individual eligibility also vary. As a result, two users can use the same Quppy app but see different currencies, account details, payment directions, crypto-assets, networks, limits or providers.

Crypto wallet and transfers

Is the Quppy crypto wallet custodial?

Yes. Quppy Crypto uses a custodial wallet model. Supported digital assets are held and administered by the applicable crypto-service provider for the user’s country, while the user manages balances and initiates deposits, withdrawals and exchanges through the Quppy interface. In the EEA, the applicable provider and custodian is Payhound Limited.
