Why does Quppy require identity verification?

Quppy and the service providers available through it may require identity verification to confirm who is using an account, determine eligibility, meet legal and regulatory obligations, prevent fraud and financial crime, and apply the correct regional service configuration. The information requested depends on the product, country, provider and risk profile. Completing verification does not guarantee that every Quppy service will be approved or available.

What is identity verification?

Identity verification is the process used to confirm that the person or authorised representative applying for a service is genuine and that the information connected with the account is accurate.

Depending on the service, verification can include:

  • full legal name;
  • date and place of birth;
  • nationality or nationalities;
  • residential address and country of residence;
  • government-issued identity document;
  • proof of residence;
  • selfie, liveness or other identity-matching check;
  • tax-residence or tax-identification information;
  • occupation or business activity;
  • expected account or transaction activity;
  • information about the purpose of the relationship;
  • details of directors, representatives or beneficial owners for a business account.

This list is illustrative. Do not send documents until the current Quppy interface or official Support channel asks for them.

Why is verification necessary?

Verification helps Quppy and the applicable provider:

  1. confirm that the applicant is the person they claim to be;
  2. determine whether the applicant is old enough and legally eligible for the requested service;
  3. assign the correct legal entity, provider, terms and country configuration;
  4. screen for sanctions, politically exposed person status and other compliance risks where required;
  5. detect impersonation, account takeover, fraud and misuse;
  6. understand the expected use of fiat and crypto services;
  7. comply with anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing obligations;
  8. satisfy payment, crypto, Travel Rule and record-keeping requirements;
  9. review whether a requested account, payment route, asset or transaction can be supported.

Quppy is a technology and software provider rather than a bank. A regulated payment or crypto service available through Quppy may be provided by a separate legal entity. That provider can have its own onboarding and due-diligence requirements.

When can verification be requested?

Verification can be requested:

  • when you create a profile;
  • before a fiat account or payment route is activated;
  • before crypto custody, exchange or transfer services are activated;
  • when you apply for Quppy Business;
  • when previously supplied information expires or changes;
  • when you sign in from a new device or recover account access;
  • when an operation is unusual or inconsistent with the known profile;
  • when a law, regulator or provider rule changes;
  • when additional information is required for a particular payment or crypto transfer.

A request does not necessarily mean that Quppy suspects wrongdoing. Many checks are standard, periodic or triggered by a change in product, provider or jurisdiction.

What documents may be requested?

The exact documents depend on the verification purpose. Examples can include:

  • passport, national identity card or other accepted identity document;
  • recent proof of address;
  • residence permit;
  • tax document;
  • selfie or liveness check;
  • employment or professional information;
  • bank or payment statement;
  • evidence supporting source of funds;
  • company registry extract, incorporation documents, shareholder register or beneficial-owner details for a business.

A document can be rejected if it is expired, unreadable, incomplete, altered, inconsistent with the application, issued outside the accepted period, or not one of the document types supported for that check.

Security warning

Quppy Support should not ask you to disclose a password, PIN, live 2FA code, private key or seed phrase. Upload requested identity documents only through an approved Quppy or provider channel.

Why can verification differ by service or country?

A user can see different requirements because:

  • Personal and Business services have different eligibility models;
  • fiat accounts, payment rails and crypto services can have different providers;
  • national identity-document formats differ;
  • local rules and sanctions restrictions differ;
  • a crypto provider may need additional information that a payment provider does not;
  • enhanced due diligence can apply to a higher-risk customer, transaction, jurisdiction or ownership structure;
  • the user’s verified residence can determine the regional service configuration.

Citizenship alone does not always determine the applicable configuration. Residence, onboarding country, legal entity, provider and applicable terms can all be relevant.

What happens if I do not complete verification?

If required verification is not completed, Quppy or the applicable provider may be unable to:

  • finish onboarding;
  • activate a service;
  • process a transaction;
  • increase a limit;
  • restore account access;
  • continue providing a service;
  • release a transaction that is under review.

The account or operation can remain limited, pending, rejected, returned, suspended or closed in accordance with the applicable terms and law. Quppy cannot guarantee approval solely because documents were submitted.

How can I help the review proceed?

  • Use your current legal name and accurate personal information.
  • Submit complete, unedited and readable documents.
  • Make sure the document has not expired.
  • Ensure names, addresses and dates are consistent.
  • Explain legitimate differences, such as a recent move or name change.
  • Respond through the official channel shown in Quppy.
  • Do not submit the same request repeatedly unless instructed.
  • Keep your profile information updated after verification.

No fixed review time is promised in this article. Timing depends on the reason for the check, provider, jurisdiction, document quality and whether additional information is needed.

How is my information used?

Identity and compliance information is processed to provide services, meet legal obligations, prevent fraud and financial crime, manage risk, respond to authorities where legally required, and maintain records.

The controller, recipients, retention period and legal basis can differ depending on whether the information is processed by Quppy or a service provider. Review the current Privacy Notice and the provider terms that apply to your service.

FAQ

Is identity verification mandatory?

It is mandatory when required for the Quppy service, provider or operation you want to use. Some informational areas of the website may remain accessible without verification.

Does passing verification guarantee that my account will be opened?

No. Verification confirms information but does not guarantee product eligibility, provider approval or access to every service.

Why do I need a selfie or liveness check?

It can help confirm that the identity document belongs to a real person who is present during the verification process and reduce impersonation fraud.

Can Quppy ask for more information after my account is active?

Yes. Information can be requested for periodic review, reverification, account recovery, a new service or a transaction review.

Can I use another person’s document?

No. Submit only genuine documents that belong to the relevant applicant, authorised representative, director or beneficial owner.

Will Support ask for my 2FA code?

No. Do not disclose a live 2FA code, password, PIN, private key or seed phrase.

Why was my document rejected?

Common reasons include expiry, poor image quality, missing pages, unsupported document type, altered content or information that does not match the account.

How long does verification take?

Quppy does not publish one guaranteed time for every verification. Timing depends on the check, provider, country, documents and any additional review.

Explanatory note

This article explains the current Quppy product and compliance configuration. The applicable Quppy and service-provider terms, country eligibility rules, privacy notices and information shown in the app prevail if they differ from this article.

Verification and compliance

Why am I being asked to verify again?

You may be asked to verify again when an identity document expires, your personal or business information changes, a different service or provider is activated, an account is recovered, or a periodic or risk-based review requires current evidence. Reverification is a normal compliance and security process and does not by itself mean that Quppy suspects wrongdoing.

Verification and compliance

Why am I being asked about source of funds?

A source-of-funds check helps Quppy or the applicable service provider understand where the fiat money or crypto used for a particular transaction or account activity came from and whether that origin is consistent with the customer profile and lawful use of the service. The check can be requested during onboarding or later and can require an explanation supported by documents or blockchain evidence.

Verification and compliance

Why can a Quppy transaction be delayed or rejected?

A Quppy transaction can be delayed, placed under review, returned or rejected because of payment-route rules, blockchain confirmations, incorrect details, security controls, transaction limits, provider availability, sanctions or AML/CFT checks, Travel Rule information, source-of-funds questions, or a technical incident. A pending or rejected status does not identify one specific cause, and Quppy may be legally unable to disclose every internal risk indicator.

Availability by region

How do I check which Quppy services are available in my country?

Use the Quppy availability directory, select your verified country of residence and customer type, and review each service separately. Check the provider, currency or crypto-asset, blockchain network or payment rail, incoming or outgoing direction, current status, limitations and Last reviewed date. Then confirm the same status in the Quppy app before opening an account, sending a payment or transferring crypto.
