What is a crypto card?
A crypto card is a payment card — usually a debit or prepaid card — that lets you spend from an app that also holds crypto-assets. When you pay, the card provider typically converts the crypto you chose into the currency of the purchase, so the shop receives ordinary money such as euros or pounds.
A stablecoin card works the same way with a stablecoin balance, such as USDC or USDT. The conversion rate, any spread and the card fees are set by each provider, so the fee schedule tells you more about a card than its design does.
The Quppy card is not live yet. How it will be funded — including whether you can pay with crypto or stablecoin balances — will be published before launch, together with the card type, issuer, fees and limits.
Card types
Virtual, physical, crypto and stablecoin cards
The terms overlap, so here is what each one usually means. Any provider's own terms decide the details.
Virtual card
Card details that live in an app rather than on plastic. A virtual card is usually issued instantly, which makes it practical for online payments and subscriptions, and where the provider supports it, it can be added to a phone's mobile wallet for contactless payments.
Physical card
A plastic or metal card for paying in shops and, where the provider allows it, withdrawing cash. It arrives by post, so it takes days rather than seconds, and it is often issued alongside a virtual card on the same account.
Crypto debit card
Spends from a balance you already hold rather than from borrowed money. On a crypto debit card that balance can include crypto-assets, which the provider sells when you pay. A crypto credit card is a different product: it lends you money that you repay later.
Stablecoin card
Spends from a stablecoin such as USDC or USDT, whose value tracks a currency like the US dollar. Which stablecoins a card accepts depends on the provider and on your country — some are not offered to customers in the EEA under MiCA.
Free virtual card, no fees, instant issue: every provider defines these differently. Before you choose any card, read its fee schedule — conversion spread, top-up, cash-withdrawal and inactivity fees — and check which countries it is offered in.
