How do I find a bitcoin transaction ID?

A bitcoin transaction ID (TXID), also called a transaction hash, is a 64-character identifier for one on-chain transfer. For a crypto transfer made through Quppy, copy the transaction hash from the transaction in Quppy, or find it on a blockchain explorer for the Bitcoin network by searching the sending or receiving address. Paste the ID into the explorer to check whether the transaction is pending or confirmed. Exchanges inside Quppy are not blockchain transfers and do not have a transaction ID.

What is a bitcoin transaction ID?

Every Bitcoin transaction has an identifier called a TXID. Bitcoin's developer documentation defines it as the double SHA-256 hash of the transaction, which is why it is also called a transaction hash. It is shown as a string of 64 characters made up of the digits 0 to 9 and the letters a to f.

The ID points to one transaction on one network. It is public, does not give anyone access to your funds, and is the most useful piece of evidence when a transfer is late or disputed.

How do I find the transaction ID in Quppy?

  1. Open the crypto transfer in your Quppy transaction history.
  2. Check the asset, network, amount and status.
  3. Copy the transaction hash shown for that transfer.

Exact screen labels can change. Follow what the current app shows.

If the transfer is an exchange, for example BTC to EUR or BTC to USDC, there is no transaction ID to find. An exchange changes the asset held in your custodial account and is not a blockchain transfer.

How do I find it on a block explorer?

A blockchain explorer is a public website that shows transactions on a network. For bitcoin:

  1. Open a reputable explorer for the Bitcoin network.
  2. Search for the sending or receiving address.
  3. Find the transaction that matches the amount and time.
  4. Open it and copy the transaction ID.

Use an explorer for the same network as the transfer. A bitcoin transaction ID will not be found on an Ethereum or TRON explorer.

How do I check a bitcoin transaction ID?

Paste the ID into the explorer's search box. The transaction page shows:

  • whether it is unconfirmed (waiting to be included in a block) or confirmed;
  • the number of confirmations, meaning how many blocks have been added since, with one or more meaning confirmed;
  • the amount, the addresses involved and the network fee.

The Bitcoin network targets a new block about every ten minutes on average, but individual blocks can arrive faster or slower, and a transaction with a low fee can wait longer. Quppy does not publish one confirmation count or completion time for every asset and network; the provider sets the requirement.

Why is there no transaction ID for my withdrawal?

A withdrawal gets a transaction ID only once it is broadcast to the network. If there is none yet, the withdrawal may still be:

  • waiting for a security or two-factor confirmation;
  • under security, compliance or Travel Rule review;
  • waiting to be broadcast by the provider;
  • failed before it reached the network.

Do not send the transfer again. Check the status in Quppy and any request for information.

What if the explorer says confirmed but Quppy does not?

A confirmed transaction on the explorer does not always mean a custodial provider has finished crediting it. The provider may still be detecting, reconciling or reviewing the deposit, or the asset, network or address may be wrong. Contact Quppy Support with:

  • the transaction ID;
  • the asset and network;
  • the amount and approximate time;
  • the sending and receiving addresses;
  • the name of the sending platform.

Never send your password, PIN, 2FA code, private key or seed phrase. Support does not need them.

FAQ

Is a transaction ID the same as a wallet address?

No. An address is where crypto is sent. A transaction ID identifies one specific transfer.

Is it safe to share my transaction ID?

Yes. It is already public on the blockchain. It cannot be used to move your funds, but it does show the addresses and amounts involved.

Why is my crypto transaction pending or under review?

A crypto transaction can remain pending because it is waiting for blockchain confirmations, the external platform has not completed processing, the applicable provider is processing it, or a security, compliance or Travel Rule review is required. “Pending” and “under review” are not the same as “failed.” Check the transaction status and evidence before contacting Support.

What happens if I use the wrong blockchain network?
